Welcome to Nursery!

At our Nursery, we aim to provide a safe, caring and friendly environment in which your child can develop and learn with confidence and enjoyment and where each child is valued as a unique individual. We endeavour to cater for the differing needs of each child through building positive relationships with the children and their families and through our engaging provision.

We are so lucky at St Anthony’s to have not one but three classroom areas: our indoor classroom, our outdoor classroom and our garden area which are "well resourced, bright and stimulating" (Ofsted 2009). In addition we have access to the school's field and hall where we have lots of fun playing games, doing dance, drama or gymnastics. Once a week, all of the children in Nursery have their own PE lesson with Mr Bromley our specialist PE Teacher.

Mrs Armstrong and Mr Turnbull are our Nursery teachers. Mrs Armstrong teaches in Nursery on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and Mr Turnbull teaches on a Thursday. The children's learning is also supported by Mrs Formosa, our Senior Early Yeard Educator, Mrs. King, Mrs Harvey and Mrs. Gill who are our learnin assistants.

We work hard, in partnership with parents, to make sure that every child feels happy and safe in nursery; helping them to be ready to learn, happy and curious about the world around them!  All nursery learning takes place through play-based activities, sometimes adult led and sometimes child-initiated. The activities are based on the needs and interests of each child and planned using the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Each week we have a special theme or story- you can find out more in our weekly newsletter (see documents below).

We use Class Dojo to keep parents up to date about what is happening in Nursery each day. We share photographs and videos of the children throughout the day and also use the messages to keep in contact with parents about how much their children are enjoying their time with us.

What have we been up to?

The Nursery children have settled really well at St Anthony's and are a delight to teach. We will continue to focus on the prime areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum: Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. Learning in these areas are vital as they support and scaffold learning in the specific areas of the curriculum (Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design).

Our theme for this half of the term is seasonal celebrations- Diwali, Bonfire night, the start of Advent and Christmas.

We have lots to look forward to including a trip to the theatre to see “Stick Man”, a walk to the Post Office so that we can post our letters to Father Christmas and our Nativity play.

We will also be sending home a story sack every other weekend to enjoy with your child. You can also choose a Nursery story to take home every Friday and return on Monday.
