Welcome to Nursery!
At our Nursery, we aim to provide a safe, caring and friendly environment in which your child can develop and learn with confidence and enjoyment and where each child is valued as a unique individual. We endeavour to cater for the differing needs of each child through building positive relationships with the children and their families and through our engaging provision.
We are so lucky at St Anthony’s to have not one but three classroom areas: our indoor classroom, our outdoor classroom and our garden area which are "well resourced, bright and stimulating" (Ofsted 2009). In addition we have access to the school's field and hall where we have lots of fun playing games, doing dance, drama or gymnastics. Once a week, all of the children in Nursery have their own PE lesson with Mr Bromley our specialist PE Teacher.
Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Slater are our Nursery teachers. Mrs Armstrong teaches in Nursery on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and Mrs Slater teaches on a Thursday. The children's learning is also supported by Mrs Formosa, our Senior Early Years Educator and Mrs. Gill, our learning assistant. Mrs King supports at lunchtime; Miss Richardson and Mrs. Standen suppoprt on a Wednesday afternoon.
We work hard, in partnership with parents, to make sure that every child feels happy and safe in nursery; helping them to be ready to learn, happy and curious about the world around them! All nursery learning takes place through play-based activities, sometimes adult led and sometimes child-initiated. The activities are based on the needs and interests of each child and planned using the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Each week we have a special theme or story- you can find out more in our weekly newsletter posted on Dojo classroom and on the notice board outside Nursery classroom..
We use Class Dojo to keep parents up to date about what is happening in Nursery each day. We share photographs and videos of the children throughout the day and also use the messages to keep in contact with parents about how much their children are enjoying their time with us.

What we are doing:
The Nursery children have settled really well at St Anthony's and are a delight to teach. We will continue to focus on the prime areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum: Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. Learning in these areas are vital as they support and scaffold learning in the specific areas of the curriculum (Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design).
Our theme for the spring term is seasonal celebrations- Epiphany, Chinese New Year, Easter- and traditional tales such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears which give us lots of language and numeracy learning opportunities.
We will also be learning a letter sound each week using the scheme "Read, Write, Inc".
