Year 1

Welcome to Year 1! frown

We hope you have had a restful half term and are ready for some new learning.

This half term our topic is 'Nurturing Nurses' with a week on WW1. The topic is based around Florence Nightingale and other significant people.

During our English sessions we will be looking at a variety of texts, including, Peace Lily and non fiction books. We will be learning how to write letters and create story maps. The class will have plenty of opportunities to continue their work on letter formation, punctuation and sentence structure.

In maths, the children will be learning all about addition as well as 2D and 3D shapes.

This is just a taster to our learning this half term so please feel free to see us if you have any questions.

General Information.

Year 1 are taught by Mrs Shepherd (Monday-Wednesday) and Mrs Hogan (Thursday & Friday)

Mrs Hickey is our Teaching and Learning Assistant.

All the children will be heard to read at least once a week by an adult in school so it is really, really important that their book bag (please no backpacks) and reading book is in school every day. Children will also be heard to read daily in their Read Write Inc groups.

Our PE days are on Monday  and FridayChildren need to have a full PE kit in school every day. PE kit should include shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a white t-shirt or polo shirt and appropriate footwear for both indoor and outdoor PE.

Please, please, please name EVERYTHING. It is amazing how easily the children lose or misplace items from their PE kits, their uniforms, their coats and even their shoes!
