Year 1

Welcome to Year 1! frown

We hope you have had a fabulous summer and are ready for a new year. We are so excited about getting to know you all.

This half term our topic is 'Get out of my Swamp!'. The topic is based around Traditional Tales.

During our English sessions we will be looking at a variety of Traditional Tales familiar to the children. We will be learning how to write labels and captions as well as looking at basic sentence structure. The class will have plenty of opportunities to improve their letter formation and begin to add capital letters and full stops to their work.

In maths, the children will continue to look at number formation and ordering to 20 as well as representing numbers using pictures and objects. The children will also begin to look at measurement in a variety of ways, including challenges and baking!

This is just a taster to our learning this half term so please feel free to see us if you have any questions.

General Information.

Year 1 are taught by Mrs Shepherd (Monday-Wednesday) and Mrs Hogan (Thursday & Friday)

Mrs Hickey is our Teaching and Learning Assistant.

All the children will be heard to read at least once a week by an adult in school so it is really, really important that their book bag (please no backpacks) and reading book is in school every day. Children will also be heard to read daily in their Read Write Inc groups.

Our PE days are on Monday  and FridayChildren need to have a full PE kit in school every day. PE kit should include shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a white t-shirt or polo shirt and appropriate footwear for both indoor and outdoor PE.

Please, please, please name EVERYTHING. It is amazing how easily the children lose or misplace items from their PE kits, their uniforms, their coats and even their shoes!
