Year 1

Welcome to Year 1! frown

This half term our topic is 'Nuturing Nurses'. This topic will enable us to cover a lot of Historysmiley. The children will look at different nurses throughout history and how nursing is different today. There will be a particular focus on Florence Nightingale and her impact on nursing.

During our English sessions we will be focusing on non fiction writing and creating fact files about Florence Nightingale and also writing letters.

Our maths focus will be subtraction and new strategies to help us solve calculations. Children will be looking at missing number problems and different ways of making the same number.

This is just a taster to our learning this half term so please feel free to see me if you have any questions.

General Information.

Year 1 are taught by Mrs Shepherd (Monday-Wednesday) and Mrs Golding (Thursday & Friday)

Mrs Hickey is our Teaching and Learning Assistant.

All the children will be heard to read at least once a week by an adult in school so it is really, really important that their book bag and reading book is in school every day. Children will also be heard to read daily in their Read Write Inc groups.

Our PE days are on Monday  and FridayChildren need to have a full PE kit in school every day. PE kit should include shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a white t-shirt or polo shirt and appropriate footwear for both indoor and outdoor PE.

Please, please, please name EVERYTHING. It is amazing how easily the children lose or misplace items from their PE kits, their uniforms, their coats and even their shoes!
