Year 1

Welcome to Year 1! frown

This half term our topic is 'The Gunpowder Plot'. This topic it will enable us to cover a lot of Historysmiley. The children will be looking at the reasons we celebrate Bonfire Night, they will sequence the story and lots more exciting activities. The children will also have opportunities to create some wonderful art work.

During our English sessions we will continue to focus on letter formation and forming interesting

sentences. The children will be learning how to accurately use capital letters and full stops. We will now begin to look at the structure of a story and how children can create their own instructions and recounts. We will be looking at a range of stories such as 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark' to support this learning.

Our maths focus will be addition, subtraction and partitioning numbers.

This is just a taster to our learning this half term so please feel free to see me if you have any questions.

General Information.

Year 1 are taught by Mrs Shepherd (Monday-Wednesday) and Mrs Golding (Thursday & Friday)

Mrs Hickey is our Teaching and Learning Assistant.

All the children will be heard to read at least once a week by an adult in school so it is really, really important that their book bag and reading book is in school every day. Children will also be heard to read daily in their Read Write Inc groups.

Our PE days are on Monday  and FridayChildren need to have a full PE kit in school every day. PE kit should include shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a white t-shirt or polo shirt and appropriate footwear for both indoor and outdoor PE.

Please, please, please name EVERYTHING. It is amazing how easily the children lose or misplace items from their PE kits, their uniforms, their coats and even their shoes!
