Welcome to Year 1!
We hope you had a lovely summer and are well rested and ready for a great half term of learning!
This half term our topic is 'Sensational Safari'. During this topic we will be looking at Africa and the animals that live there.
We will be looking at the location of Africa using maps and discussing the weather that they have there and comparing the environment to our own. The children will also have opportunities to create some wonderful art work.
During our English sessions we will be focusing on letter formation and forming simple sentences. The children will be learning how to accurately use capital letters and full stops. We will be looking at a range of stories such as 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' and the 'Just So' stories to support this learning.
Our maths focus will be counting to 20 and beyond, ordering and writing numbers.
This is just a taster to our learning this half term so please feel free to see me if you have any questions.
Year 1 are taught by Mrs Shepherd (Monday-Wednesday) and Mrs Golding (Thursday & Friday)
Mrs Hickey is our Teaching and Learning Assistant.
All the children will be heard to read at least once a week by an adult in school so it is really, really important that their book bag and reading book is in school every day. Children will also be heard to read daily in their Read Write Inc groups.
Our PE days are on Monday and Friday. Children need to have a full PE kit in school every day. PE kit should include shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a white t-shirt or polo shirt and appropriate footwear for both indoor and outdoor PE.
Please, please, please name EVERYTHING. It is amazing how easily the children lose or misplace items from their PE kits, their uniforms, their coats and even their shoes!
