“We walk in the footsteps of Christ and are held in the hand of God"

At St. Anthony's Catholic Primary School, the children are taught traditional Catholic prayers in certain year groups. These prayers can be used at home to support parents in developing their children's knowledge of prayer and to continue to develop their children's understanding of what the words mean to us as Christians today.

The Sign of the Cross - EYFS
In the name of the father, (right hand to your forehead)
and of the Son (RIght hand to the centre of your chest)
and of the Holy Spirit. (right hand to each shoulder starting with your left)
Amen. (join your hands together in front of you in prayer)

Hail Mary - EYFS

Hail Mary, full of grace,

the Lord is with thee:

blessed art thou among women,

and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

pray for us sinners,

now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Our Father - EYFS

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Act of faith, hope and love - Year 1

O my God, I love you above all things, with my whole heart and soul, because You are all-good and worthy of all my love. I love my neighbour as myself for love of You. I forgive all who have injured me, and I ask pardon of all whom I have injured. Amen.

Glory Be - Year 1

Glory be to the Father,

and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning,

is now, and ever shall be,

world without end.

Amen.

Prayer to the Guardian Angel - Year 1

Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom God's love commits me here,
ever this day be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.

Eternal Rest - Year 2

Eternal rest give unto them, O Lord,

and let perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace.

Amen.

Act of faith - Year 2

O my God, I firmly believe that Thou art one God, in three Divine Persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost; I believe that Thy Divine Son became man and died for our sins and that He will come to judge the living and the dead.

Act of Hope - Year 2

O My God, relying on Thy infinite goodness and promises, I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of Thy grace and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.

Prayer for St Francis of Assisi - Year 2

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.

Act of Sorrow - Year 3

O my God, I thank you for loving me.

I am sorry for all my sins:

for not loving others

and not loving you.

Help me to live like Jesus

and not sin again.

Amen.

Act of love - Year 3

O my God, I love Thee above all things with my whole heart and soul, because Thou art all good and worthy of all love. I love my neighbour as myself for love of Thee. I forgive all who have injured me, and I ask pardon for all whom I have injured.

The Angelus - Year 3

The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary:
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it done unto me according to Thy word.

Hail Mary...

And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary...

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord.

Amen.

Prayer to the guardian angel - Year 4

O angel of God, my holy guardian, given to me from heaven, enlighten me this day, and save me from all evil. Instruct me in doing good deeds, and set me on the path of salvation. Amen.

The Memorare - Year 4

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,

that never was it known

that anyone who fled to your protection,

implored your help or sought your intercession,

was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto you,

O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.

To you I come, before you I stand,

sinful and sorrowful;

O Mother of the Word Incarnate,

despise not my petitions, but in your mercy

hear and answer me.

Amen.

Prayer of St Richard of Chichester - Year 4

Thanks be to thee, my Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits thou hast given me,
for all the pains and insults thou hast borne for me.
O most merciful redeemer, friend and brother,
may I know thee more clearly,
love thee more dearly,
and follow thee more nearly, day by day.
Amen.

The Magnificat - Year 5

My soul glorifies the Lord,

My spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour.

He looks on his servant in her loneliness;

henceforth all ages will call me blessed.

The Almighty works marvels for me.

Holy his name!

His mercy is from age to age,

on those who fear him.

He puts forth his arm in strength

and scatters the proud-hearted.

He casts the mighty from their thrones

and raises the lowly.

He fills the starving with good things,

sends the rich away empty.

He protects Israel, his servant,

remembering his mercy,

the mercy promised to our fathers,

to Abraham and his sons forever.

Amen.

Regina Caeli - Year 5

Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Diocesan Prayer for vocations - Year 5

Inspire, in the hearts of your people, vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and religious life. Bless our families with a spirit of generosity, so that those whom you call have the courage to give themselves to your Church in faith. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hail Holy Queen - Year 6

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope.

To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate,

thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed

fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O merciful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit - Year 6

O Come, Holy Spirit,

fill the hearts of your faithful,

and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.

And you shall renew the face of the earth.

O God, who has taught the hearts of the faithful

by the light of the Holy Spirit,

grant that by the gift of that same Spirit

we may be always truly wise

and ever rejoice in his consolation.

Amen.
