Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

General Information

Year 6 are taught by Mrs Davies (Mon-Weds) and Ms Place (Thurs-Fri). Our teaching and learning assistants are Mrs King and Mrs Harvey.

All of the children  are expected to read at home every night and discuss what you have read with an adult. It is essential that you fully understand the text you are reading and become familiar with new vocabulary, so that you can apply this learning to your writing. Your reading record needs to be signed every night and handed in to be checked each morning. This is vital for you to progress across the whole curriculum.

We have a large class library, stocked full of exciting books, for you to enjoy, as well as access to the school library and the reading scheme books. We also read a class book every day.

Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. Please make sure that your child has their PE kit in school on those days. For information about uniform, PE kits and other items that your child may need please click here

Home Learning

Times Tables: We expect you to know your times tables (to 12 x 12) off-by-heart, so these will need to be practised frequently. There are fun games to practise them on the Topmarks website.

Spellings: A set of spellings to learn will be given out every Thursday. The list is available on Google Classroom, along with a variety of optional activities, and you can also practise them on the Twinkl Spelling app. You will be tested on them the following Thursday.

KS2 SATs Revision: Leading up to the Key Stage 2 SATs in May, you will be given revision to do every week; this will include maths arithmetic and reasoning, reading comprehension and SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) questions. Please keep this safely in your reading record (along with your maths and SPAG knowledge organisers) until you need to hand it in. Home revision is given out on Mondays and is due the following Monday.

There are also lots of useful websites and resources to help with your learning and revision on Google Classroom, spag.com and maths.co.uk.

Other: There will be times throughout the year when single homework assignments will be set. Please log in to Google Classroom often to access links to useful learning websites and keep up-to-date with what we're learning in class. You are encouraged to research and practise at home what you have been learning at school.

Website usernames and passwords

Your usernames and passwords should be kept at the front of your reading record for easy access at home. You should have passwords for welearn365, Google Classroom, spag.com, Twinkl spelling, maths.co.uk, Tinkercad.
